"Visions of Her"
by Rick Saldan
This is a five page poem written on
the morning of January 24, 1998, a full six months before meeting Jewel. I woke up
and the words of this poem were going through my mind. I typed it up in 30
minutes. Jewel and I first met on July 10, 1998. We never knew
each other prior to that first meeting. I was amazed how many character traits she had that were written
in the poem! Isn't that amazing! Imagine knowing all about someone
before you even meet them!
I seemed to awake from
a strange dream,
my body felt odd while laying there in bed;
suddenly an angel appeared before me,
he was seven feet from foot to head.
He said, "Hello, brother, come fly with me,
I have for you a vision to bestow;
We want for you to meet a unique woman,
in a future time you won't yet know."
He reached out to me for my hand,
my spirit seemed to lift up and out;
we soared up quickly through the roof,
I felt such joy I wanted to shout.
He took me to a beautiful place,
a mysterious land of light and fire;
it seemed a small piece of Heaven,
to stay forever grew my desire.
Time went quickly as he showed me things,
we spoke somewhat about the future coming;
visions of a woman swirled through my mind,
the excitement flowed and the thrill numbing.
These angels apparently were out recruiting,
willing voices for which they'd show;
ways to be inspired by these messengers,
their heavenly thoughts to earth would flow.
They said anyone from earth could volunteer,
that I wasn't really someone special;
all they needed was an open mind,
we'd be given tools for tasks we'd tackle.
An important mission they told me,
that I calmly keep on the look out;
for a lady of keen passion and love,
possessing charisma and special clout.
How peculiar that they would tell me,
a list of things to go out and look for;
as the register grew longer and longer,
my task seemed impossible I'd implore.
At my stress they conferred to themselves,
they said "Be at peace and only sit back;
we will help you perform this search,
never an effort nor lofty contract."
"However it is important that you should know,
some facts about this lady you'll meet;
we need to show you ahead of time,
her character both loving and sweet."
"She has in her a peaceful heart,
a childlike love for nature and God;
a child born under the Asian sun,
full of compassion for the broken & down trod."
The dream of our future began to unfold,
a vision through time ten years ahead;
traveling the world and raising a family,
building a log home and happy homestead.
Hard to believe life could be so good,
yet paying the price with pain along the way;
cherishing a wife and mother like no other,
she could be tough as steel yet softer than clay.
I saw us speaking before large groups,
designing popular seminars and classes;
we were coauthoring several good books,
sowing love and inspiration to masses.
To travel around our big blue world,
visiting new peoples and different lands;
sailing out on luxury cruise liners,
seeing new countries and foreign sands.
She was ever so skilled in diplomacy,
despite the stress we rarely had a fight;
we worked hard together throughout the day,
but then played even harder at night.
We owned several businesses together,
offices across the country I saw;
I managed the sales and administration,
she handled books of accounting and law.
So many adventures she wanted to follow,
such as riding our motorcycle into the night;
my mind was so amazed and blown apart,
that such a woman wanted me didn't seem right.
She said she wanted to fly with me,
to skydive from planes and soar the skies;
to zip and zoom around like Peter Pan,
I longed for such laughter in her eyes.
I was so delighted when she sang to me,
songs of love, courage, romance and such;
like some spirit reaching deep inside me,
the depths of my soul did she easily touch.
We traveled around to children’s shelters,
she sang and I gave them a magic show;
we loved to touch their minds and hearts,
watching their precious faces become aglow.
She visited elderly in nursing homes,
singing for them and playing guitar;
she inspired and filled them with hope,
she helped them feel like a superstar.
Such a precious gem hidden in the masses,
so many wonderful talents she did harbor;
gifts of public speaking and influence,
traits of courage, strength and ardor.
I felt so unworthy of her strong love,
and I just could not understand why;
how did God grant such kindness to me,
such a loving wonderful gift made me cry.
I saw in her a strength beyond measure,
a fierceness of the angelic warrior;
how amazing to find these wrapped in one,
such treasures God did bestow in her.
She works out daily to keep in good shape,
knowing the value of mental discipline;
believing that a strong and trim body,
keeps the mind in top peak condition.
Then it seemed I could see inside her,
like an angel lifting some mystical curtain;
she longed to be loved for who she really was,
no ordinary woman of this I grew certain.
This magnetic lady possessed a very keen wit,
an outgoing personality and a smile to kill;
she could be funny, wild and outrageous,
yet longed to be at peace and tranquil.
You could feel her strength when standing near,
deep inside she had gifts so hard to find;
her heart possessed those special treasures,
gained only as life sends you through a grind.
Weekly she worked in a homeless soup kitchen,
she had a deep compassion for people in need,
speaking tender words to these hurting people,
to help the lonely and forgotten seemed her creed.
Remaining cheerful she had her many battles,
I could see she was a person of great depth;
disappointments in family, friends and love,
her spirit I longed to comfort and caress.
She loves to nurture the friends in her life,
always to give her love, strength and support;
when will it be her turn to receive such devotion,
why does it seem life keeps selling her short?
To people she loved she was fiercely loyal,
she'd do anything asked for those she cared;
though she built a great wall around her heart,
a lot might be offered for the man who dared.
A steadfast warrior of passion and fire,
great energy into things she pursues;
vigilantly with force and determination,
persisting with any goal she does choose.
Tough as nails when she needs to be,
yet knowing when to be loving and gentle;
a lady of class at a black tie reception,
or black leather she both be comfortable.
Soaking in her beauty as I looked her over,
insides bursting as my heart began to melt;
many good things wrapped up in one person,
so hard to mask or hide how I truly felt.
Yearning to be together burned so strong,
the visions holding me in their tight grip;
I'd do anything to make this dream come true,
not a mirage, fantasy or empty head trip.
Making mental notes of these things I saw,
listing out priceless traits as they arose;
with hopes of making this all come to pass,
feeling inspired to write it down in prose.
A wonderful woman of beauty and appeal,
I wished so hard I was holding her dear;
begging for the chance to meet her in person,
loving her only in dreams grew the fear.
Every hardship and challenge ever endured,
seemed to make such sense at this time;
to be given a wonderfully talented wife,
I was so happy hoping she may be mine.
I promised them I would always treasure,
the love and trust she placed in me;
I looked forward to that special day,
when I stood before her on one knee.
I longed to be the one she married,
a husband she would cherish forever;
I wanted to make it all fall in place,
to see how Gods plans can be so clever.
I have seen him do it for some others,
how he makes life spring from an empty well;
I've watched others enjoy such delight,
bringing joy and wonder you just can't sell.
I keep telling friends the dream I've had,
of this lady of caliber as I did perceive;
I'm told to forget about it and move on,
though discouraged I will hope and believe.
