Why Daily Planning is So Important for Adults with ADD
Author: ADD Coach Jennifer Koretsky
For adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), details are a drag. We tend to see the big picture and want to jump straight to the finish line, wishing we could skip all the steps in between. Unfortunately, this perspective often causes us to become overwhelmed when it's time to start a project. We know where we want to end up, but we don't know where to start.

Tips for Finding Professionals who Understand Adult ADD
Author: Tara McGillicuddy
One of the biggest concerns that I hear from adults with ADD is that they can't find a professional who really understands adult ADD. Many people begin with their primary care physician or go through their insurance company to try to get evaluated and/or treated for adult ADD. Some very lucky people do find great professionals on their first try but the majority of people sadly do not. Instead they become even more frustrated which often leads to them not getting any help for their ADD.

If you are an adult with ADD, chances are that at some point in your life, you've felt that you are not "living up to your potential." Kids: Channeling Mania Towards Productivity
Author: Kate Hufstetler
More and more kids these days are diagnosed ADD, ADHD, or Bipolar. There are biological reasons for this, and there are environmental elements which can soothe or aggravate the symptoms. It becomes increasingly easy to ¡§react¡¨ to each mood swing rather than to develop a plan for different positions on the pendulum swing. Yet, preplanning is the best chance at teaching our children coping skills that will serve them throughout life. A child will learn better during a manic or hyper state¡Xif the parent is able to stay strong and kick into a preplanned directed goal.

Focus and Concentration
Author: Dr. Laura De Giorgio
When I was about 13 - 14 years old, I got my first book on mind-power. It began with a simple statement "Focused energy always hits the target" and this statement remained with me for the rest of my life. It continued with this brief explanation: whatever you desire to create requires certain amount of energy. When you fill the image you desire with the energy it needs to manifest, it becomes part of your visible, tangible experience. So beautifully simple and true.

Falling Asleep - An ADD Nightmare
Author: ADD Coach Jennifer Koretsky
Like many “night people,” I have a hard time waking up in the morning, but I have an even harder time falling asleep at night. When I spoke to my doctor about this problem, she offered me a very simple solution: take three hours to "wind down" before bed. Don’t do anything stimulating in the evening that will engage your brain. Relax, unwind, and you’ll find yourself falling asleep much easier at night. Sounds simple, right? Not when you have ADD!

Author: ADD Management Coach Jennifer Koretsky
How many times a day do you find yourself using the word "should"? ADDers are full of "should's": I should do the dishes, I should clean out the fridge, I should see that movie, I should call my friend, etc. The word "should" can be very dangerous to an adult with ADD, because it often results in guilt.

Do you know what day January 17th is? Here's a hint: it has to do with New Year's Resolutions. If you’re like most Americans, January brings a renewed sense of energy and motivation that usually results in a “New Year’s Resolution.” But if you have Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (also known as ADD or ADHD), making positive changes may be more of a challenge than it seems.

This month we will look at the criteria for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Six or more of the following criteria must have persisted for at least six months or more to a degree that impairs you in your everyday situations. The six can either be in the first group of questions on inattention or the second group of questions on Hyperactivity-Impulsivity. These are the questions that you will be asked during a diagnosis. Think back to your childhood and to how long you have had these symptoms.

Benefits of Biofeedback
Author: Eric B. Miller Ph.D. BCIAC
Biofeedback is a safe, powerful, non-drug intervention. It is often a learning process which helps you gain control of your body's responses to stress, anxiety, physical strain and emotional stimuli. Being a learning process, it also requires time, a consistent schedule of treatment sessions, practice inbetween sessions, and personal motivation. This not like taking a pill and waiting for a magical cure! It is more like starting to learn the piano, taking it a step at a time and not expecting to play Bethoven in the second lesson. Many people have been able to reduce medications through biofeedback and other non-drug interventions.

Attention Deficit Disorder
Author: Jef Gazley, M.S.
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity (ADHD) occur as a result of neurological dysfunction in the prefrontal cortex of the brain. This is the newest part of our tri-brain system in evolutionary terms. It is the part of our brain that performs executive functions. The functions of this brain deal with 1) attention span, 2) perseverance, 3) judgment, 4) organization, 5) impulse control, 6) self-monitoring and supervision, 7) problem solving, 8) critical thinking, 9) forward thinking, 10) learning from experience, 11) ability to feel and express emotions, 12) interaction with the limbic system, and 13) empathy.

There are various treatments available: Medication, Homeopathic, Behavior Modification, Neurofeedback and Brainwave Entrainment.

8 Essential Skills for Managing ADD
Author: Jennifer Koretsky
So many adults with ADD find themselves chronically overwhelmed with every day life. This means that they generally wake up feeling like they are running behind on all the things they need to do, spend the whole day on high speed in order to get all those things done, and yet still go to bed most nights feeling like they never got anywhere. Or, they spend the whole day in a fog, constantly aware of all the things on that to-do list, but never mustering up the motivation to tackle the tasks. This leaves them feeling unorganized, unproductive, unhappy, lazy, guilty, and...the list goes on.

10 Tips for Practicing Positive Thinking as a Tool for Managing ADD
Author: Jennifer Koretsky
At first glance, it would seem that positive thinking and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have nothing to do with one another. But many of us with ADD develop negative thinking patterns because we become frustrated by our challenges and frequent feelings of being overwhelmed. This negative outlook then makes it even harder for us to manage those challenges and move forward.
