Create Time, Not Excuses
Author: David Kawahata

Create Time Not Excuses:

Everyday we hear a new excuse from indolent people in our relationships, at our workplace, or just out in public. My father reminded me every time I came up with a feeble excuse that, “excuses are like assholes, and everyone has one”. Aren’t excuses just the easy way out, while the difficult thing to do is to put the blame on yourself? An excuse is NOT a reason! An excuse is defined as the explanation that you give when you have not done something that you should have done, or when you have done something wrong. A reason is a fact that explains why something happens, exists, or is true.

The most common excuse is when it comes to exercise, health, and fitness. “I just don’t have enough time to exercise, but I know it is good for me. I want to start but I just have too many other things to do.” This is the most common and the most inadequate excuse of them all. The first statement “I don’t have enough time” is the biggest fabrication I have ever heard. What about the four hours of television you watch a day? What about those weekends when you sleep for more than eight hours? What about all the time that is spent on things other than family, religion, or work? It’s not that you do not have enough time; it is simply that you are too lazy to start exercising. I’m not saying everyone has to exercise, some people want to and some don’t. Some people could care less if they were living a healthy lifestyle, but if you are one of the people who believe that your health is a priority than take responsibility. Just admit it to yourself that you are lazy and a procrastinator. The first step to change is being honest with yourself that you are responsible for where you are in life. Taking responsibility for your actions should be a vital part of your everyday life.
The second part of the statement “I just have too many other things to do,” is also a feeble excuse not a great reason. Everybody has a lot of things to do everyday, but the successful people prioritize their lives. The successful people in this world are willing to do what the unsuccessful people are not willing to do. If you think about it there has been someone at sometime facing the same restraints you face and has succeeded in accomplishing all of their goals. So what’s the difference between you and them? Excuses… the easy way out of doing something that takes time and effort.
