"Beep, beep, beep, beep…"
Cassandra slowing opened her eyes and removed the blankets off her head. “It's cold. I don't feel like getting up”, she thought as she stuck her arm out from under the blankets to hit the snooze button on the alarm clock.
"Beep, beep, beep, beep…"
“It could not have been nine minutes already. I just laid back down”, Cassandra thought as she once again stuck her arm from under the blankets to hit the snooze button.
"Beep, beep, beep, beep…"
"Alright, alright!!" she yelled to the alarm clock as she banged the OFF button. "I'm getting up," Cassandra said angrily, as she dragged herself out of bed and into the bathroom. She turned on the facets and splashed warm water on her face. Looking at herself in the mirror she said, "I can't do this any more. I really can't."
Cassandra had worked for the past ten years as an administrative assistant to five attorneys in the legal department of a pharmaceutical company. She hated her job. She hated everything about her job. She hated the fact that she had to get up every morning to go into a job that she hated.
Because she hated her job, she wasn't good at it either. The funny thing was, she didn't care that she wasn't good at it because she didn't want to do it for the rest of her life. The paycheck was OK. It afforded her enough money to pay her bills and still get in a little shopping every now and then. But, it didn't allow her enough for all the extra things in life. She lived in a one-bedroom apartment and drove a car that worked whenever it wanted to work. And had a hard time paying her 10% tithes at the church. But today, Cassandra made up her mind that she was sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Cassandra is a long time member of First Baptist Church and believes in God with all her heart. She spends most of her free time helping out at the church. She's a member of the Mass Choir and a member of the Usher Board.
Being a strong believer in God, she knows she was put on this earth to do more than just file papers, answer phone and type contracts, briefs and agreements for five, rather annoying, attorneys. She knows that she has a purpose in life but she is confused about how to discover that purpose.
The problem is quite simple. Cassandra, like so many other fellow Christians, have never learned how to discover their purpose or how to listen to their soul. The soul is an amazing thing. Once you learn how to listen to your soul and follow your passions, you will be on the right track to discovering your life's purpose.
Discovering your life's purpose and incorporating it into a career is what God put us here, on earth, to do. It tells us so in Romans 8:28, it says, " And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.”
When you know your purpose and are living it, you will be passionate about your job because it will be something exciting. You will jump out of bed, before the alarm clock goes off each morning, thanking God for the opportunity to see another day. And because of your passion for what you will be doing, you will excel at it. People will offer you money to perform your service, even though you would probably do it for free just because you love it so much.
Take some time and think about the things you are passionate about. Then, listen to your soul. Determine where you passions lay and take action! Turn those passions and dreams into reality. Follow your heart and your soul. Don't listen to naysayers, negative people or doubters. You can do whatever it is you desire to do. God is with you. God put you here for a purpose. Now, go out and discover that purpose and start living the life God intended you to live.
