Shining Light
Author: Phil Walmsley

Let your light shine!

It takes less energy to allow your light to shine than it does to allow in the darkness.

Each of us has the potential to shine. Every one of us has the necessary equipment to shine. All of us have to make the choice whether or not we choose to shine.

So what is shining? Well, it's not that scary movie by Stephen King. The shining that I am referring to is the ability to allow yourself to be a loving, caring, joyous person. A shining person radiates happiness. A shining person is content. A shining person exudes peace. A shining person shows mercy. A shining person forgives. A shining person shines. Having said that I can hear many people say " That shining thing you talk about Phil is all fine and dandy but how can you expect me to shine when I have all these bills to pay, these kids to clothe and feed, my health the way that it is, my life the way that it is. I can't possibly shine until I have....". ( you fill in the blank.)

Shining is a way of being. It is a state of mind. It is a state of being where you choose to place yourself. Shining is showing your gifts, your talents, your spirit, your dreams. Shining is showing who you are. Not the surface you, but the God-fused part of you. The part that knows but chooses not to.

So, what is the darkness. It is not the evil, it is not the devil. It is not sin. Darkness is the absence of light. Darkness is the absence of shining. If shining is a choice, then darkness is also a choice. Those people not shining are choosing darkness - Ok maybe some are choosing grayness (is grayness a word?)

The act of choosing and living in darkness (the absence of shining) requires more energy than choosing to shine. You see, it requires a lot of energy to harbour resentments, hold on to hate, to be willing to unforgive, to be angry, to be jealous, to be envious, to distract yourself from your calling, to be unhappy, to be cruel, to be vindictive, to be hurtful, to be discontent with people, to be discontent with your finances, to be discontent with your life. This is the darkness and it requires far more energy to "be" here than it does to let your light shine.

Ask yourself whether you live in "light" or "darkness". Which would you prefer to live in? It is your choice. You and only you have the power to make this choice to live in the light or in the dark. Are your energies pushed to the max, and your life seems like a crushing weight? Does it feels like the Universe or God has forgotten about you? If you're about to throw in the towel giving up in a fit of despair saying " I can't take this anymore" then this is good. Often people have to hit the bottom of the barrel before they realize that they need to look at and rechoose the priorities in their life. The choosing of happiness, light and love as a way of being is the key to breaking free from the darkness.

Here's an example of the power of light.

Imagine you are standing in a dark room and the door is closed. There is absolutely no light. It is pitch black. Then imagine that just outside the door of the pitch black room there is a light on. Let's say a 100 watt bulb about two feet from the closed door.

Back in your dark room, open the door to the room that has the light on.

Observe.

Answer this question.
When you opened the door that led to the light did the light shine into the dark room you were in or did the darkness of the room you were in pour out into the room with the light?

The light can penetrate the dark. But the dark cannot penetrate the light. The light is always more powerful. Darkness is simply an absence of light.

In order for you to let your light shine you have to turn on your inner light. You have to choose how you are going to be. You have to choose your attitudes, your emotions, your course, your state of mind, your way of being.

If you want more energy, more joy, more abundance, more peace, more love in your life then let go of the darkness and choose into your light.

Let your light shine. Shining is a gift that we all have.
