How Snoring Can Cause Stroke
Author: Christian Goodman

Most of the time snoring is only thought to be irritating for the partner of snorers. In the worst causes lack of sleep. But new surveys show that if serious snoring can cause damage to the arteries, which may lead to stroke.

What happens when person suffers from snoring on a high level is that the tongue will fall into the throat. If the throat gets completely blocked the person may not breath for several seconds.

As the person struggles to breath the blood pressure soars. This rise of blood pressure damages the carotid arteries lining the sides of the neck.

The injured sites attract cholesterol and calcium that stick to them and amass into calcified plaques, which block blood flow to the brain. The result may be a massive stroke.

A team at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Dentistry made this examination.

The team took X-rays of the neck of 47 male suffering from a bad case of snoring. Then they compared to X-rays of almost 900 men who did not suffer from snoring.

The results are frightening. 21 percent, ten of the men suffering from snoring had hardened blockages in their carotid arteries compared to only 2,5 percentage men from the other group had any hardened blockages there.

The increased stroke risk is coming from the neck, not the other part of the body and the damage is probably extensive.

We have probably not jet come to the bottom of how serious it can be to have the breathing passage blocked over and over again during the night.

Think about it. It is like someone would press pillow over your face.

In short: snoring can kill.
